There was a time when thinking of visiting Greece, the islands were the main attraction. Not anymore. Athens is such a wonderful city to visit and spend some time exploring, it has gained the recognition and love it deserves. The cuisine, the people, the art, the scene, the vibe, I’m smitten.
In the past we have enjoyed resting our heads on some plush beds in the big hotels Athens has to offer, especially since small, luxurious B&B were not a thing of the past. Well, things have changed and I am giddy to share two really special, luxurious, romantic, and down right memorable spots not to be missed. The first beauty is Shila. When describing this gorgeous hotel I must quote, “Shila is an ethereal late 1920s residence in the heart of Athens, which brings new meaning and inspiration to the concept of the boutique hotel. A place to feel indulged and at home, and yet at the same time, to experience an otherworldly realm of elegance and sensuality.” This place drips with elegance and romantism in every thoughtful detail. Meanwhile, the other note worthy, gorgeous hotel is Monsieur Didot, a magical enchantment. This neoclassic gem offers a serene, luxurious, elegant experience equaling a true home away from home. We felt like the most welcomed guest staying in this classy, sumptuous house. We even had an entire floor (including 3 bedrooms) all to ourselves. Both of these gems are located in the upscale, lovely Kolonaki neighborhood. Lovely restaurants and shops are all walking distance, not to mention the ancient acropolis and surrounding neighborhoods.

ROOM CHECK
1. midnight munchies:
Beside the incredible snacks that are already stocked in the suite; think artisan chocolates, herbed bread sticks, nuts, wine, etc… The master creators of Shila have curated a delectable menu comprised of the best dishes derived from a few favorite local restaurants. After a long day of travel and a very late arrival, checking into our beautiful suite was made even sweeter by having our late night, scrumptious dinner waiting for us there.
2. roomy:
The luxurious suites are so spacious, like a 2 bedroom apartment. We had a room to ourselves divided by 2 giant bathrooms and a kitchen. The kids had the lounge/ living room that was converted into a big bedroom with 2 single beds.
3. extra fluff:
Comfy bed, pillows, and bedding. Plush towels & washcloths. I was also very fond of the 100% linen kimonos (which they also sell) and the Shila slippers.
4. plushities:
romantic lighting on dimmers, beautiful details of design from the furniture to the fixtures, plush towels, robes, slippers, the en suite snacks of artisan chocolates, nuts, bread sticks, wine, liquor, loose leaf tea, fresh coffee/espresso, organic local made body products
***I have to make a special mention here about the absolutely incredible breakfast that was included with our suite. Since my family and I are all plant based eaters, the incredible staff went well beyond our wildest dreams to deliver us each morning the most scrumptious, special breakfast. There were fresh breads (including gluten free per our request) with fresh nut butters and jams, fruits, homemade granola & yogurt, fresh juices, as well as little greek breakfast sandwiches that I’m still dreaming about. And of course, let’s not forget the espressos.
5. snaggables:
Of all my travels I have never come across body products in my hotel room that I have loved more. Shila collaborated and curated the products exclusively for the hotel with the Greek organic brand, Aegli. The combination of the Mediterranean Lavender and Greek basil stole my heart.
6. super secret sexy time:
No need for secret anything in this spacious, gorgeous suite.
7. dockya’s:
no hidden fees
*note The delicious homemade breakfast is included in the price.
