There was a time when thinking of visiting Greece, the islands were the main attraction. Not anymore. Athens is such a wonderful city to visit and spend some time exploring, it has gained the recognition and love it deserves. The cuisine, the people, the art, the scene, the vibe, I’m smitten.
In the past we have enjoyed resting our heads on some plush beds in the big hotels Athens has to offer, especially since small, luxurious B&B were not a thing of the past. Well, things have changed and I am giddy to share two really special, luxurious, romantic, and down right memorable spots not to be missed. The first gorgeous hotel I want to mention is Monsieur Didot, a magical enchantment. This neoclassic gem offers a serene, luxurious, elegant experience equaling a true home away from home. We felt like the most welcomed guests staying in this classy, sumptuous house, while also feeling like a privileged local residing in the city. We even had an entire floor, including 3 bedrooms (called the trilogy) all to ourselves. The second beauty is Shila. When describing this gorgeous hotel I must quote, “Shila is an ethereal late 1920s residence in the heart of Athens, which brings new meaning and inspiration to the concept of the boutique hotel. A place to feel indulged and at home, and yet at the same time, to experience an otherworldly realm of elegance and sensuality.” This place drips with elegance and romantism in every thoughtful detail. Both of these gems are located in the upscale, lovely Kolonaki neighborhood. Lovely restaurants and shops are all walking distance, not to mention the ancient acropolis and surrounding neighborhoods.

1. midnight munchies:
Since this is a bed and breakfast, and not a typical big hotel with the 24 hours of service, if you crave more than the sweet fruits and nuts that are stocked in the room, you will need to hit the vibrant streets of Athens to satisfy your snackles.
2. roomy:
We stayed in The trilogy, which includes 3 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a shared living space, all on a floor to ourselves. It felt like our own house, where we could completely spread out.
